43 Showers

All of the shower handles I come across in my travels.

You take showers while you travel too? Send your shower handle photos/reports to dave at 43showers dot com.

Hyatt Regency, Cambridge, MA
One of the more common, workhorse designs. You might remember it from such hotels as the Hyatt Regency, Embarcadero and the  Sheraton in Parsippany, NY. If it had a name, it would probably be the “Hi-Tub-Lo.”

“The controls were easy to use, but the hot indicator is a bitpremature. Meaning I had to turn the handle WAY past where I expectedfor warm and hot water.”

Pretty unremarkable shower. Simple to use, but way overshadowed by the excellent bathtub:

Westin Long Beach, Long Beach CA
The controls were fairly easy to figure out, but the handle only allowed for about 90 degrees of movement from “off” to 100% hot. That doesn’t allow for much breadth in terms of temperature gradations. The etched H and C labels were a little tough to read in the available light, but not too bad.
This shower also has a double nozzle:

Hotel Healdsburg, Healdsburg California
A nice one-handle design. Substantial in the hand, and simple to operate — turn in one direction for hotter and the other for colder. The labels were engraved on the metal ring behind the handle. The separate bath controls are also interesting. I like their subtle use “HH” for the hot handle label to emphasize the Hotel Healdsburg brand:

The Westin Dublin, Dublin Ireland
Good shower-in-bath controls in addition to the separate shower below:

There are two dots to indicate the temperature in each direction. The only minor hitch to this shower control scheme was that since there selector arm doesn’t come to a point, it was hard to tell at first whether you point the round end or the opposite end towards the temperature you desire.

Gramercy Park Hotel, New York NY
With a punnett square-like array of four handles, one each for hot and cold, bath and shower, it can’t be much easier to figure out what’s what. Lowers for bath, uppers for shower. Fantastic water pressure as well.

Hotel La Maison, Munich Germany
The bath and shower controls were simple and elegant. I appreciated the pac-man-like drain control, which was duplicated in the front of the tub and the side. There were other bathroom interface elements, however, that were difficult to figure out. To wit:
